Flu refers to illnesses caused by a number of different influenza viruses. Flu can cause a range of symptoms and effects, from mild to lethal.
Two strains of flu, seasonal flu and the H1N1 (Swine) flu, are currently circulating in the United States.
Most healthy people recover from the flu without problems, but certain people are at high risk for serious complications.
The symptoms of H1N1 flu include fever, cough, sore throat, runny or stuffy nose, body aches, headache, chills, fatigue, and possibly vomiting or diarrhea.
If you are infected with H1N1 flu you should stay home, avoid close contact with others, get plenty of rest and drink clear fluids such as water to prevent becoming dehydrated. Additionally, you should cover coughs and sneezes and clean hands with soap and water or an alcohol-based hand rub often, especially after using tissues and after coughing or sneezing into your hands to prevent the spread.
